Teshigoto is a small, Wellington-based group that loves sharing Japanese-inspired handmade work.
Our name comes from the Japanese words te (“hand”) and shigoto (“work”), and for us, it’s all about handwork and handmade craft. We enjoy slow making, visible stitches, and objects that carry stories.
A big part of what we do is exploring Japanese aesthetics in mending and reusing – things like kimono upcycling, cartonnage, Japanese doll making, and sashiko/kogin. Instead of hiding repairs, we celebrate them as part of an object’s character and beauty.
Meet Our Artists
Showaya (昭和屋)

Showaya breathes new life into vintage kimono, creating everything from unique clothing and small fabric items to delicate handmade dolls. Beyond fabric work, Showaya also shares the art of the Japanese tea ceremony (sadou/茶道) at local events, offering a quiet, peaceful moment of traditional hospitality.

KuroKogin (くろこぎん)

KuroKogin specialises in the intricate world of kogin sashiko. Her work ranges from pieces inspired by antique patterns to more modern kogin styles. If you’ve ever wanted to try it yourself, KuroKogin can offer friendly workshops where you can learn the basics of these simple, meditative stitches.
